What every women ought to know about their bodies after 40

For those of you here that don’t know, I was a competitive bodybuilder for five years. I participated in 13 shows both regionally and nationally. I lived a very strict lifestyle eating chicken, fish, egg whites, oats, some rice & sweet potatoes, and a ton of green veggies (all plain!).

I worked out a minimum of 2 hours per day, 7 days per week….. There were no OFF days!!

While my body was shredded and I carried abs for days, I was miserable!

I had no outside life, no date nights, no eating at family gatherings, and no drinking. My life was the gym, meal prep, and chasing that stage.

When I made the decision to walk away from the stage, I thought maintaining my body was going to be easy. Hell I had lived that lifestyle for five years, it should be a habit by now, right?

I was so very wrong!

While I made an attempt to maintain some sort of a clean eating routine, I was not working out as much, so I was not burning as many calories plus I was taking in more calories, especially on the weekends.

I was also fast approaching the age of 40, which those of you that have been there, understand that our bodies seem to take a complete flip (or fall, whatever) into the ocean of unknown hormonal imbalance.

After 40, my body was a complete wreck!

I did not have the strong desire to workout like I used to.

I did not have the mental drive to actually diet anymore.

I craved sugary and fatty foods constantly.


I was so unhappy with the way my body looked from the extra weight gain.

I had constant aches and pains for reasons I could not explain.

I had started to slip into depression that I could not seem to bring myself out of.

I had lost the drive to do the things that I loved.

My health markers from my lab work were not good!

And, I had even started to lose my sex drive!!!

WTF….. This was not ME!!

I needed to do something, but what?

I no longer had the ability to do all of the things that I did in my 20’s and 30’s, trust me, I did in fact try to go back to those routines multiple times with FAIL!

I knew the cookie-cutter, bodybuilder style diets and workouts were not going to work for me anymore.
